The matriarch of FunnyBoyz is Linda Gold, who has been a drag sensation for over 15 years. She started her career at Central Station in Kings Cross, before launching drag events at The Green Carnation in Soho. Her career has taken her all over the world, but when asked about London, Linda says “There’s no place like home”
We chatted in more detail with Linda about Funnyboyz, and here’s what she had to say.
“ We launched FunnyBoyz on Youtube over the lockdown to relieve people’s boredom and bring our entertainment to a new audience – back then, we called it EuroDrag TV as we already owned a trademark called EuroDrag. The show was made up of comedy sketches and interviews with celebrities, drag queens, silly games and bingo. It went down an absolute storm – It was from this we thought about how we could grow. “
When the bars started to re-open in Liverpool ( where we were based ), I’ve decided to bring the party to a bar using the same format, but live. The event was an overnight success, people had been locked up for over half a year and they were ready to party.
After Liverpool was established, we then launched across the UK: Brighton, London, Manchester, Aberdeen, Blackpool, Glasgow, and just recently we have taken the event abroad to Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Spain & The Netherlands.
The success of FunnyBoyz is that it’s not just a drag show, it’s a complete 4-hour interactive drag experience, from the minute you enter the building you are given a glass of fizz, bingo tickets, unlimited popcorn and the connection is made there and then. The rest of the night flows with audience participation, games, shows, and music with the icing on the cake being our infamous game of Benidorm Bingo, which is often referred to as the most hilarious game of musical bingo in the world.
Funnyboyz can be found at the City of Quebec most Saturdays to Sundays every week, and every Friday. Come see us!
