Writer Shane ShayShay Konno and comedian Fizz Sinclair have teamed up to write a new play in which they’ll be starring as Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie filming a live reunion show.
A show about two spoilt socialites trying their hand at humdrum jobs makes a return — sort of. However, there’s something awry — a mysterious murderer is on the loose and there’s only one night to catch them.
We caught up with both stars with some quick-fire GLL questions to get the full low down!
This looks hot — where did the idea for “The Simple Life And Death” come from?
With Paris and Nicole’s upcoming reunion special and Paris’ recent return to pop music, the girls are back in the zeitgeist. So when we were dreaming up what kind of story we could put our signature silly spin on, the iconic duo came to mind. Once we’d settled on The Simple Life as our inspiration, the name just came to us. And with the addition of And Death, we knew it had to be a murder mystery!
What can people expect from this version?
In The Simple Life And Death, Paris and Nicole have returned to the farm for a live reunion, bringing with them other icons from the 2000s, namely Jennifer Coolidge, Cheryl Cole and Caitlyn Jenner, who all turn out to be the murder suspects. Reviving all these familiar noughties faces allows us to bring back all the pop cultural references from the era too. Expect nods to Legally Blonde, Mean Girls and even Ghost Hunting with Girls Aloud.

Step back into the early 2000s and live your best Y2K lives. We wanna see double denim, velour tracksuits, pink (so much pink!), low rise jeans, pop star glam, rhinestones, mini skirts, cargo pants and baby tees. I mean, you totally get the vibe, diva.
Have you two worked together before? What have rehearsals been like?
This is our third production together, so we have a very fluid way of working together. Because of this, rehearsals often feel like play time. So as much writing as we had done before rehearsals started, so much was discovered once we were in the rehearsal room. And now that the show is open, even more is being discovered live on stage.
Did you have to fight over who would be Paris and who’d be Nicole?
We knew exactly who was who without saying a word. In our show, ShayShay plays Paris throughout, while Fizz multi-roles as Nicole and everyone else. We have joked about swapping parts, but ShayShay cannot master the Cheryl Cole accent. It’s not even close.
What’s your favourite episode of The Simple Life?
The pilot is absolutely perfect. A beacon of reality TV, which changed the trajectory of the genre. It set the tone, style, and format for all the reality shows since. The Kardashians and the Real Housewives would be nothing without Paris and Nicole!
