Pride Month Series: Heather Elliot from Halfway To Heaven

To celebrate pride month, throughout June we will be asking “What does Pride mean to you?”

We’ve spoken to people from across our vibrant scene and community.

Today we speak to Heather Elliot, manager of the Incredible Halfway To Heaven, a cavern of cabaret and good times, located near Charing Cross station.

Here’s what she had to say:

GLL: What does Pride mean to you?

H: I’ve learned so much about Pride over the years I’ve been at Halfway. The sense of a community coming together is very emotive. Being able to be a part of that is make me truly proud.

GLL: Tell us about your first Pride experience, what & where was it?

H: 2014 was my first pride I worked a 12-hour shift at Rupert Street, Poured so many drinks but saw nothing else. It wasn’t till the shift was over we sat outside drinking prosecco with Karl and Agata that I could take in the atmosphere and join in with the revellers.

GLL: What is your favourite part of Pride?

H: The atmosphere just as the march reaches Trafalgar Square knowing that in a few minutes Halfway and Duncannon Street will be packed. Serving drinks to the street with Queen Kelly Mild at the window

GLL: Do you have a favourite Pride memory?

H: 2016 was my first Pride at Halfway. The memory of the whole day was just overwhelming. There’s nothing quite like it.

GLL: Why do you think Pride is still important?

H: It’s a fight that isn’t over. Until the community all around the world can live a day without fear of persecution we continue to fight

Halfway To Heaven is located at 7 Duncannon St, London WC2N 4JF
