FOR PETE’S SAKE! Embark on a naughty trip to Neverland with Tuck Shop’s Latest Drag Panto!
Put down your doorstop novels and switch off that thought-provoking documentary series — Christmas is a time for the sort of uncomplicated, feel-good entertainment that leaves you with a skip in your step and a smile on your face. As luck would have it, Tuck Shop’s latest panto is heading to the West End this month.
If you’ve not seen any of the company’s shows, they’re completely OTT, laugh-a-minute affairs featuring turns from some of the country’s best drag talent — this year’s reinterpretation of Peter Pan promises to be another belter.
How can we be so sure of this? Well for starters, the script’s been written by Gareth Joyner, who’s perhaps better known as the acid- tongued queen of quick wit, Myra Dubois.
Expect this children’s fairytale to be turned into a rather- more risque evening complete with a generous helping of close-to-the-bone gags and character assassinations. If you’ve found yourself in the news this year, you’re in for a pillorying.
Then, there’s the cast, which is something of a Drag Race fan’s wet dream. Series five winner Ginger Johnson takes on the villainous role of Hook, while the trio of Kitty Scott-Claus, Cheryl Hole and Kate Butch are the Darling Children. Added to that, the inimitable Bailey J Mills is Tinkerbell, Yshee Black is Smee, Ophelia Love is Village No 4 and Mahatma Khandi is the Mermaid. And who’s Peter Pan? It’s only drag king superstar, Richard Energy!
After the success of its three previous pantos, you know you’re in safe hands with Tuck Shop and its cast of super-talented queens (and king, of course). Why not treat yourself to a bit of festive fun? Christmas just isn’t Christmas without a bit of panto.
