PARTY PREVIEW: Brew Hunter’s Leather Weekend

Forget Halloween the most anticipated event this October is Brew Hunter’s Leather Weekend

If you think that gay leathermen are a thing of the past, you couldn’t be more wrong. Granted, you don’t see many of them in All Bar One, but they’re still about. You just have to scratch underneath the surface a bit.

The daddy of the London leather scene has to be Brew Hunter, whose club night Mastery at The Backstreet has been the capital’s most notorious party for leather-lovers for years now. At the end of this month, he’s holding a weekend of events to bring the community together and celebrate this particular peccadillo in all its filthy glory. Here’s what he’s got lined up.

Friday 29th October

Tom 101

You can’t talk about leather history without mentioning Touko Valio Laaksonen (better known as Tom of Finland), whose iconic drawings of beautiful beefcakes bursting out of their jeans are just as sexy today as they were when he put pencil to paper all those years ago. Brew is honouring the father of Fetish’s 101st birthday with a party at The Backstreet. Treat yourself to a look through the artwork — both hands please! — and get some inspiration for a smoking hot look.

Friday 29th October, The Backstreet, Wentworth Mews, Mile End, E3 4UA, 10pm-3am, £10 OTD, £5 for members or free before 10.45pm

Saturday 30th October.

Leather P*rn

Something more cerebral now. The team at The Bishopsgate Institute will be rifling through its immense LGBTQ+ archive and digging out vintage leather magazines for aficionados to flick through. As well as this, there will be a world-first exhibition of works by Orpheus Men Art, who has a gift for painting hardcore scenes in classical style. At 4pm, Brew himself will be taking to the front of the classroom to present MASTERYCLASS, with the theme ‘PROTOCOL – The Meaning of MASTERY’.

London’s fastest-growing sex- and body-positive queer Fetish brand. Leather, rubber & latex made-to-measure with a perfect bespoke fit for every tailor-made fetish desire!

Bishopsgate Institute, 230 Bishopsgate, EC2M 4QH, 3pm-5pm, £5

You didn’t think Brew was going to organise a weekend without his most famous night, did you? Celebrating its seventh birthday, MASTERY returns to The Backstreet once again for a night of leather-bound depravity, where submissives and dominants meet in a haze of cigar smoke and amyl nitrate. As known as it is for no-holds-barred debauchery, it’s also a night where complete beginners can come and learn first-hand from those who’ve been involved in the scene for years. There’s a strict leather or rubber dress code, though.

The Backstreet, Wentworth Mews, Mile End, E3 4UA, £15 (£10 members)
