The Masterworkers believe that enjoying classical music shouldn’t require you to be overdressed, uncomfortably seated, or even sober! They’re all about making great music accessible, relaxed, and fun.
Shedding the formality of traditional classical concerts, the Masterworkers are back at the Two Brewers in Clapham on Saturday 9th November
This time, they’re bringing you Tchaikovsky’s dazzling and romantic ‘Souvenir de Florence,’ along with an exciting mix of popular classical and crossover music. You’ll hear pieces by Brahms, Erroll Garner, Vivaldi, Angela Morley, and Gershwin, all performed by top musicians from some of London’s finest orchestras, including the English National Opera, the BBC Symphony and Concert Orchestras, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Masterworkers are passionate about delivering performances that are just as exceptional as those you’d find at the Wigmore Hall or Southbank Centre—but in a much more relaxed, social setting. For these seasoned musicians, this is a true ‘labour of love,’ and they want to share the joy this beautiful music has brought to their lives. By keeping ticket prices affordable, they hope to make these events accessible to everyone, especially those new to classical music who might want to give it a try.
Gavin Davies, the leader of the Masterworkers, has played alongside major artists like Barbra Streisand, Dame Edna Everage, The Bear’s Den, and Pink Martini. He’s also recorded soundtracks for over 100 films and TV shows. Gavin is known for his witty, dry humor, adding a delightful mix of historical and emotional insights between the pieces.
Performing at an inclusive venue like the Two Brewers, where everyone is welcome no matter how they identify, allows the Masterworkers to create a truly integrated and welcoming night out. There’s no dress code, but whether you’re into uniforms, leathers, rubbers, jeans, ballgowns, or cardigans, you’re encouraged to come as you are—whether that’s more S&M or M&S!
The cozy, friendly atmosphere of the Two Brewers makes it easy for groups of friends or solo attendees to mingle, chat, and enjoy. Drinks will be served throughout the relaxed performance, and with the program wrapping up around 9:15pm, you’re more than welcome to stick around for after-show drinks.
