With the Klub back open again after a couple of months of being beautified behind closed doors, we caught up with Ku Bar’s business manager, Scott Priestley, to hear a little more about the refurb
The Klub’s back open again! How has it been so far?
Yes, it’s been a little longer than expected, but we are over the moon with the results. The first week back open has been amazing and the feedback from our customers has been incredible!
What changes have you made to the space?
We had been planning to renovate the Klub for some time now, but Covid got in the way a little bit. We were finally able to get the ball rolling in August and taking onboard feedback from performers, staff, and customers on how the space is used, we’ve changed everything from the top to bottom, literally! As well as installing a full new sound and lighting system, we’ve reconfigured the areas and added bespoke fixtures and fittings – it was a lot more than just a lick of paint. The venue is now a fully versatile space that we are proud to show off and offer out for events.
What were the design influences behind it?
The designer took into consideration the way people will circulate throughout the space, working with a flooring pattern that leads you through the venue and a raised stage as a focal. How the space looks under the lights was important too, with the contrasting wall textures and shimmering foils around the venue reflecting the club lighting and bringing the space to life.
Are all the resident club nights returning?
Yes, as Klub has developed and diversified so much over years, so have our resident nights. All our weekly nights and resident DJs are returning, from Bombshell with Lady Lloyd and Tasty Tim every Wednesday and Soul in Soho with Lawrence Rowe and guests every Thursday to Divas Sundays with Lady Lloyd, Heidi Liscious and guests. And, to top it all off, we’re now open until 3am every night of the week.
Things are going to start ramping up for Christmas soon, has Ku got any special plans?
We can’t wait for this year’s festive period and will be going all out to make it as Christmassy as we can with our 12ft tree and venues fully decked out in decorations. Needless to say, we will make sure there are mince pies and mulled wine aplenty.
