This year, the Gay Polo League’s annual international tournament is happening in London — why not pop along to watch?
From the 2012 Olympics to the final of last year’s Women’s Euro football tournament, London has hosted some pretty major sporting events in its time. However, there’s one that they haven’t bagged yet, but this all changes on Saturday 9th of September.
Yes, the rumours are true — the Gay Polo League is hosting the annual Euro Cup at Ham Polo Club next month. Players and horses from around the globe will be flying to compete in the fourth edition of the competition.
There’ll be three matches happening on the day, with the Wooden Spoon final starting at 1pm, followed by The Founder’s Cup Final at 2.15pm and finishing with the main event, the GPL Euro Cup Final, at 3.30pm.
That’s not all, however. There’s a contest for the most gregariously decorated tailgate — the area in which spectators pull up to the side of the pitch and
picnic — while there’ll also be a neon-themed after-party at which players and spectators can mingle and dance the night away.
Whether you’re already conversant when it comes to chukkas or you’re completely unfamiliar with the sport of polo, this is a fabulous opportunity to do something different and immerse yourselves in what’s sure to be a fabulous atmosphere.
Saturday 9th September, midday to midnight, Ham Polo Club, Petersham Road, TW010 7AH, Nearest Station: Richmond, tickets available from eventbrite.com
