London is currently doing its best impression of an over, so frankly, you may as well stop fighting it!
This Friday, Honey Honey returns to Electrowerkz, promising another gloriously sweaty night of big tunes, sweet treats, friendly faces and the sort of dancefloor where taking yourself too seriously is strictly optional.
If you caught Honey Honey’s Pride party, you’ll already know exactly why this relatively new addition to London’s queer nightlife calendar has been creating such a buzz.
“Pride at Honey Honey was proof that a dancefloor can hold silliness and sincerity at once. Doctor Woof brought the chaos, Inflateacub brought the bounce, and the room brought the love. That’s the whole formula.”
And really, that sums Honey Honey up rather nicely. It’s a party, first and foremost, but one where being welcoming isn’t an afterthought. Come with your mates, come on a date or come by yourself and leave with several new best friends whose names you may or may not remember in the morning.
“We didn’t set out to reinvent the scene. We just wanted a room built to fit the people who’d been squeezing into someone else’s.”
That ethos runs through the night, from the music and crowd to the playful extras that make Honey Honey feel a little different. There’s candy floss to get stuck in your beard, the Sweet Spot to explore and plenty of opportunity for what the team rather charmingly describes as a “good little bop”.
“Seeing people pop along, make new friends, enjoy the candy floss, check out our Sweet Spot and have a good little bop has been incredibly wholesome.”
Wholesome might not be the first word traditionally associated with a Friday night at Electrowerkz, but that’s precisely part of Honey Honey’s charm. There’s mischief, there’s dancing and there’s plenty of queer energy, but underneath it all is something refreshingly simple: people being nice to each other.
As the Honey Honey team puts it: “People ask if Honey Honey is a reaction to anything. I think that if kindness seems like a reaction to anything, then that says everything you need to know. Honey Honey is just what happens when kindness gets a soundsystem.”
We rather like that.
So, with London scorchio, the fans working overtime and any hope of maintaining a perfectly dry forehead long since abandoned, there’s only one sensible course of action this Friday: embrace the heat, grab something cold, find your people and get yourself onto the Honey Honey dancefloor.
After all, if you’re going to be hot and sticky anyway, you might as well have candy floss.
