In The Mean Time… Pride season continues with another event down in leafy Greenwich
What’s that? Hell yeah, we’re LGBTQIA — Lovin’ Greenwich’s Bars That Queers Inhabit…um, Affectionately? Ran out of steam after a strong start there, didn’t we.
Anyway, if you’re similarly passionate about this picturesque Royal Borough, you’ll be happy to learn there’s a Pride celebration happening here on Saturday 17th August. It’s a free event on the streets outside Ye Olde Rose and Crown, and there’ll be a cash bar outside and a cash-and-card bar inside the pub.
Local icon Miss Aisles is hosting the event and introducing performances from the likes of — deep breath — Lady Imelda, Koala Bear, Moira Less, Queera Lynn, Miss Facetious, Beary Poppins, Candy Heals, Miss Courtney, Poppadom Shake, That Girl and Rhoda Kill.
And even better news — the annual Michael Joyce Charity Drag Race is making a return. This is, quite literally, a race between drag queens or anyone barmy enough to bring a pair of heels with them.
Those participating have to complete a short circuit to raise money for a charity of their choosing or one of Greenwich Pride’s associated good causes (Mind, THT, AKT or Macmillan). What could possibly go wrong?
