Getting to Know..Mitch Winn: The man behind South London’s newest cruising spot The LC

We decided we wanted the low down on Mitch, and get to know him a bit better for you.…

Mitch Winn, The man behind South London’s newest cruising joint, The Lord Clyde.

GLL: For those who haven’t heard of you before, tell us a little bit about your events.

I began club promotion in 2003 when I started my first club, Come To Daddy at Central Station. Since then, I’ve run a total of six different fetish nights ranging from Paunchy, a cruise and dance club for bigger guys, to ‘Triple XXX’ filming club. The latter was a real eye-opener! I branched out to running nights at Ted’s Place, including Bold, London’s first CMNM (clothed men, naked men) party and Punishment Block, a spanking and CP night.

GLL: The Lord Clyde has been open now for a few weeks, how’s it all going?

We have been open now for ten weeks. The first four weeks were difficult as the pub had been empty for over six years, so we had to let the local gay community know that the venue was open and operating as a cruise bar, but now things have really taken off. Most nights get good numbers and word is really spreading. We recently introduced a loyalty card scheme, and it’s nice to see lots of guys coming back again and again.

GLL: If someone has never been before, what should they expect? Is there a dress code?

Some nights have a dress code, or an undress code in the case of our Naked event every Wednesday or our underwear night, Bulge, on Thursdays. We’re currently toying with the idea of introducing further nights for the leather and rubber crowd, but if there is a strict dress code, we will make it clearly known. Generally, we are trying to create the friendly and laid-back atmosphere.

GLL: What else happens through the week?

On Friday we have Punishment Block and on Saturdays, we have a rotating line-up of events. Finishing the week is the ‘Sunday Social’ night, with a bears theme at the end of the month. The London Leather Men are doing another night here on Friday 14th October from 9pm to 2am, as part of London Leather Weekend, and we’re expecting that event to be super raunchy and busy.

GLL: What exciting plans do you have for the Lord Clyde and its future?

We have big plans to add our secret third floor, which will have new permanent play spaces and its own private outside smoking area, but we don’t want to spoil all the surprises just yet. Let’s just say we will not only be London’s friendliest cruise bar, but also London’s biggest. Watch this space.
