The iconic King’s Head Theatre is about to get a burst of comedy, drama, and a touch of fabulousness with the world premiere of “Northbound Boy.” This brand-new queer comedy, written by James Hogan—yes, the founder of Oberon Books—is set to hit the stage this August. And guess what? Cormac Hyde-Corrin, the talented actor who stole hearts as Harry in Netflix’s Heartstopper, will make his stage debut!
What’s the Play About?
Picture this: Ken, a 43-year-old who’s never set foot in a gay bar, picks up Rory, a young hitchhiker with a whole different kind of trip in mind. As they roll up to Ken’s recently inherited home, Rory’s not after a joyride; he’s eyeing Ken’s family jewels. But plot twist! Aunt Ivy, Ken’s mysterious and estranged aunt, has already made off with them. The result? A hilariously chaotic evening where secrets aren’t the only things coming out of the closet.
Cormac Hyde-Corrin will play the cheeky 19-year-old Rory, while Neil Ashton, known for his role in Sky Originals’ Brassic, stars as Ken. And let’s not forget the talented Sarah Moyle, beloved for her role as Valerie in the BBC’s Doctors, who rounds out this delightful cast as Aunt Ivy.
Who’s Behind This?
The brilliant mind behind “Northbound Boy” is none other than James Hogan. Hogan, a veteran in the theatre world and the founder of Oberon Books, has returned to his first love—playwriting—after stepping down from his publishing house. At 81, he’s bringing his latest masterpiece to life, with a poignant and funny take on loneliness and the unexpected connections we make. Directing this riotous affair is Alex Jackson, co-founder of the Exeter Fringe Festival, making his main house debut.
