More than 2,500 gay men have received the first dose of the gonorrhea vaccine at 56 Dean Street, helping to break the transmission of gonorrhea cases in the capital.
The Bexsero vaccine was originally designed to protect children from meningococcal B meningitis, but two doses spaced at least a month apart reduce the chance of catching gonorrhea by 40% — a welcome development given that there were more than 70,000 gonorrhea diagnoses in England in 2024.
