One of the only gay bars in West London, Ted’s Place is famed for its raunchy cruise nights. This July, we caught up with the man himself to hear what’s happening at Fulham’s naughtiest bar.
GLL: The doors of Ted’s Place have been open for an impressive thirty-one years and counting. What is it that keeps people coming back?
Ted: I’d like to think it’s my fabulous personality and infectious smile! But seriously, Ted’s Place is a friendly, attitude-free bar where everyone is made to feel welcome. We run different nights for all tastes, and we seem to have hit on a winning formula. Fulham and Chelsea have a reputation for being a bit snobbish.
GLL: Is it important that us naughty gays and trans folk still make some noise to keep West London lively? The bar brings much-needed fun and diversity to the area.
Ted: We have regulars coming from far and wide for a great night out, and to enjoy our range of themed nights.
GLL: You’ve bid farewell to Bold after countless parties, do you have any fun or naughty stories from over the years that you can share?
Ted: We enjoyed working with the guys from Bold. But as they say, what goes on in Bold stays in Bold. I wish the best of luck to those boys on their new venture.
GLL: Your new night is Dare, a night where punters can bare all – what can guys expect from the night?
Ted: We plan to build on the success of Bold and increase the number of hot guys attending from the area. It’s a fun-filled rager where anything goes. It’s just an action-packed night. Everyone is welcome, with or without their clothes.
GLL: Thursdays and Sundays are dedicated to trans folk, CD, and their admirers – why has it been so important to you to have an inclusive night twice each week?
Ted: We started the Trans/CD nights years ago when there were only two other bars catering to the Trans/CD community. They’ve always given me 100% support over the years, and I’d like to thank them. If it’s anyone’s first time going out, ours is a good place to meet like-minded people for all kinds of advice.
GLL: Then on Wednesday, it’s all about underwear! Let’s ask the all-important question: Briefs or Boxers?
Ted: Anything goes, from budgie smugglers to mankinis. But personally, I prefer naked. It’s a great night at which to meet guys who are into what you’re into.
GLL: The lads all head down on Friday for some Cruise Control. What is it about cruising that we gay guys just can’t get enough of?
Ted: Everyone loves a good cruise and Ted’s Place is no exception. You can either cruise in the dark room or join the other guys at the bar for a cold beer and a chat whilst eying up the talent.
