Tell us a bit about your DJ journey so far.

Oh, it’s a story as old as time: boy goes to clubs in the late 90s, boy DJs at friend’s bedroom at uni, boy buys the cheapest decks he can afford and plays at parties at friends’ houses. When I moved to London in 2001, I found it extremely hard to break into the scene as nobody knew who I was, so in the end I just started promoting my own events so I could play at them. Landing at the RVT in 2012 and then an 18-month residency at The King’s Arms in 2014 was when I really came into my own.

Since then I have been lucky to set the tone at BEEFMINCE parties and also play in a lot of venues around London and the UK, as well as Greece, Sweden, Italy and the USA.

What’s a song that sums up BEEFMINCE?

In 2017, I stumbled across a Lokee remix of The Power by Snap! I have not stopped playing it since and it always gets the same reaction by the crowds: hands in the air and cheers!

Give us a record you’ve fallen in love with in the past year.

Freak On did an excellent rework of Let the Music Play by Shannon. It’s so powerful, it kept most of the original hooks and sounds ah-mazing on the dancefloor, so I even forgive the fact it’s not the original vocal.

And what’s an oldie that never fails to please?

The Disco Mix of It’s a Sin by Pet Shop Boys. I played it as my closing track in the RVT tunnel for London Pride last year and it was a moment, for sure. Which artist do you turn to when a dance floor needs bringing to life? Not going to lie, it’s got to be 80s/90s classics and gay icons (Kylie, Gaga, Chappell) but delivered with the Silverhook stamp.

SILVERHOOK is on regular rotation at BEEFMINCE, the next BEEFMINCE is TONIGHT at RVT, Vauxhall, with BEEFMINCE Birmingham on Saturday 12th April followed by the BEEFMINCE BIG BALL for its massive Easter blowout back in the capital on Friday 18th April at The Clapham Grand.
