Longer days, warmer nights and a capital that feels like it’s stepping into spring, Get ready to give a warm welcome to the Gay London Life April Edition.
This month, we meet the man who knows exactly where things are heading. Our cover star, Thomas Avery of Avery Residential, gives us a sharp, insightful take on the evolution of London’s LGBTQ+ scene, from shifting neighbourhoods to the idea that the “gay area” as we knew it is changing. We chat about identity, space and why where you live is ultimately about who you are.
In In The Know, London nightlife gets a serious injection of heat. Pérola, from the team behind JAKE, lands at art’otel Battersea Power Station with a slick mix of Latin energy, house beats and high-impact dancers. It’s confident, sexy and built for those nights that don’t want to end. Come for the music, stay for the crowd.
We’re also loving Club Seven’s latest Pride drop, which hits the sweet spot. Clean, confident and wearable, it’s less about gimmicks and more about feeling good in your own skin, exactly how it should be.
And then… finally, it’s back! The Black Cap has reopened. After years of waiting, campaigning and “is it actually happening?”, the Camden icon returns with all the drag, cabaret and chaos it’s known for. This isn’t just a reopening. it’s a piece of queer London history stepping back into the spotlight.
On the culture front, it’s a strong month. We spotlight JEEZUS!, bold, queer and unapologetically theatrical, alongside Sorry (I Broke Your Arms and Legs) at The Pleasance, chaotic, competitive and honestly a bit unhinged (in the best possible way). We’re also diving into full camp territory with Derrière on a G String, bringing pure, chaotic energy to Islington and yes, you’ll want a ticket.
And for those who like their nights with a touch of old-school glamour, Liberace and Liza: A Tribute heads out on its first UK tour, opening at Greenwich Theatre. Expect big vocals, bigger piano moments and just the right amount of wink, high camp, high glam and exactly our kind of night.
Guiding us through it all, Thomas Magill reigns as our Theatre Supremo, delivering his insider picks, must-sees and all the gossip from Theatreland and beyond.
We’re also featuring something genuinely needed. Friend of Dorothy, the UK’s first online pharmacy designed specifically for gay men, has launched. A digital doctor that actually gets us? It’s smart, accessible and long overdue.
We’ve been out and about too, with photos galore from the first outing of Honey Honey and one of our Soho favourites, The Yard, papping the people, energy and moments that make London what it is right now.
And if you’re ready to go a little deeper, we’re gearing up for Fetish Unlimited, Kink, but make it culture. Taking over Bishopsgate Institute this April, it’s shaping up to be one of the most talked-about events of the month.
