Just because it’s the first Saturday of January, it doesn’t mean you can have a night on the sofa in front of the telly…That’s it, throw on something arse-hugging and get yourself to the first Athena of the year.
This is the club night that celebrates the eighties in all its glory. The timeless hits, the pioneering tunes, the little-known oddities — resident DJs Paul Joseph and Gareth Hackney (plus the occasional special guest) have the magic touch when it comes to filling up a dance floor.

This month Athena celebrates 40 years of an iconic year, 1985. DJ Johnny Kailfornia (Radio 2’s Sounds of the ‘80s) joins the boys for a special set of pure 1985 pop. Plus they’ll have classic 1985 clips on the big screens.

1985. It’s the year we were introduced to Whitney Houston and A-Ha, Kate Bush released her Hounds of Love album, Madonna starred in Desperately Seeking Susan and released ‘Into The Groove’ from its soundtrack while Tina Turner ruled over Mad Max III Beyond Thunderdome and released its epic ‘We Don’t Need Another Hero’. At the movies we were watching Back To The Future, The Goonies, Return to Oz and Cocoon.

In UK TV we made our first trip to Albert Square, while Howards Way aimed to be a glossier soap. We met Super Gran and T Bag and Cilla hooked up her first ever Blind Date. Over the pond the Dukes of Hazzard too their last drive, The Golden Girls started and Dynasty aired its big Moldvan Wedding Massacre.
