Alexis shares the feeling of jubilation that comes with living as her true self and why this feeling is so important at this moment in time.
Hope you’ve had a fantastic Pride Month back in June and London Pride at the start of the month. My name is Alexis Blake and I am a thriving trans woman and today I wanted to write about trans joy.
Trans joy in the purest form is when a trans person feels happiness while navigating their gender journey and living their true, authentic life. What once seemed like a boring task, such as going to the supermarket, can now feel completely different. Popping to the shops as your true self feels so validating and affirming in your chosen gender. It makes the difficulties of transition completely worth it.

Existing in the world can be overwhelming sometimes. I can only describe my existence pre-transition as it felt like I was wearing a ‘boy Halloween costume’ all of the time. People would use my male name and he/him pronouns, and it never felt authentic to me. It always felt as if they were talking about someone else.
However, now I have transitioned and am referred to as Alexis, she/her is incredible. To be seen as who I always felt on the inside is a feeling I cannot describe. Just being able to walk out of my front door as myself brings me trans joy every day and I remain sograteful for that.
Why is trans joy important right now? Three words — Supreme Court Ruling. I won’t go into this in detail as I can imagine you know what I might say. In a time where many don’t acknowledge our existence as trans people, trans joy is crucial in this time to show them we are winning. We are just humans, trying to exist in this crazy world.
We made sure we stood up and showed up at London Pride 2025. Trans people have been around for a long time and we are not going anywhere. We marched and protested to work towards equal rights for all people.
Spread love and kindness Always!
