Ahead of KINKY TRADE, We catch up with Antoin from RECON

Ahead of Kinky Trade’s rebirth in London on Bank Holiday Sunday April 30th 2023 at the historic warehouse-style club, Egg LDN, we catch up with Recon brand creative Antoin Strachan.

Starting out as Events Manager for Recon, Antoin has travelled and hosted Recon parties across the world and continues to lead the brand as an International Ambassador & Host for all their main events.

Collaborating with the iconic Trade club, April 30th’s Kinky Trade event is where the underground music and fetish themes have evolved into an irresistible fusion of kink and queer clubbing hedonism. With an extensive line up of DJs, including some of your faves from the queer music scene, they cover a wide range of of house and techno progressing through to harder beats on Egg LDN’s huge sound systems across 3 floors.

“The thought of what could be and knowing what it means to the wider kink community is what drives my passion. I want people to be able to come out and have a fab time with other kinksters, no matter which city were in”

“Being able to collab with a legendary brand like TRADE is simply a dream for us. It’s a name that music lovers all know. And bringing two such powerful brands together will be an evolution in what we do at Recon events. TRADE is synonymous with London’s vibrant underground music scene and Recon events are infamous with the UK, EU and US fetish crowds. This will be a true convergence of the underground music scene, the queer fetish and queer music scenes and the fetish scene. We’re looking forward to the return of Kinky Trade, and the fact that the event will be open to all genders will make it truly iconic for the London clubbing scene. ”

The Chat…

Hi Antoin

A huge welcome back to Gay London Life and it’s great to see Kinky Trade reborn on Sunday April 30th and can you give us some insight into what you’ve got planned? what do you feel are the key elements for a great event?

We’ve got an extensive line-up of DJs playing over 2 floors of EGG and the entire Loft floor will be converted into a men-only play space. We know the fetish boys will still want to have a space where they can be completely geared up with other like-minded kinksters.

You’ve been behind one of the most successful events over the last two years, Recon, and what have been the highlights of your clubland journey so far?

I joined the Recon team as the Events Manager back in 2006, so my clubland journey started quite a few years ago. It’s been treat to travel with and host Recon events in different cities around the world. The cultures are all so different, but the music, gear, and the ability to party with other kinksters remains the same.

As one of the founders of Recon, can you tell us how you first got into running club events and was it always a passion of yours?

Over the past years, I’ve become one of the faces of the brand. A lot of people think I’m one of the founders, and I suppose that comes naturally with the level of public visibility I’ve got. I initially interviewed for a position as events manager back in 2006, and it was literally a baptism by fire into a world that was fairly unknown to me, but I still found it absolutely exciting. The thought of what could be and knowing what it means to the wider kink community is what drives my passion. I want people to be able to come out and have a fab time with other kinksters, no matter which city we’re in.

Can you tell us about linking up with Trade and how excited are you for the collab on the marathon Kinky Trade party?

I’m really looking forward to this event. Teaming up with a legendary club like TRADE is a totally new thing for us but just the initial plans to bring together the London underground music scene, the queer scene and the fetish scene is exciting. I’m bracing for the marathon event, and I hope the music lovers and the kinksters are too.

How important do you think the musical programming is to a successful clubbing session and there’s lots of new names on the line up and can you tell who you’re excited to see?

For some people, the music is absolutely essential to the success of a party. And when you’re bringing together such a fantastic mix of clubbers, you want everyone to feel like their tastes are being catered for. The line-up of DJs are from across the clubbing scene – House, Techno and the Queer music scenes and the combination of sounds should create the backdrop for a fab night out. I’ve got a soft spot for Manue G and I’m absolutely excited she’s coming over from Paris to play the event.

Recon is known for its fetish settings and Kinky Trade party combines all that with the best in underground house and techno and what do you think this will add to the London club scene?

No doubt, this bring an entirely new dimension to the UK clubbing scene. Everyone talks about travelling to Berlin, Madrid or Ibiza for the big club nights and the music scene, but there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t produce that at home in London, and this is precisely what we’re hoping to introduce our clubbers to.

5 tips for getting through the marathon Kinky Trade
