The high-quiffed and big-voiced Allan Jay has recently released a new single, Summer of Love. As you can probably guess from the name, it’s a paean to the fun and frolics that come with the hottest months of the year and it’s the ideal accompaniment to beach holidays, barbecues and Pride parties. We caught up with the Scottish singer to hear a little more about this inescapably dancy tune.
Hey Allan, you’ve just released a new song called Summer of Love. Tell us a little bit about that.
Summer of Love is a feel-good song all about partying, sunshine and fun. The single was originally released by Cascada in 2012. I’m a huge Cascada fan and when my management, label and I were thinking of a track to release this summer, I suggested it and we all thought YES. We’ve given it a little Allan Jay twist for 2023, with great mixes from Rob Moore, Matt Pop and David Noakes.
The video looks like it was fun to make…
We had a brilliant day. Thanks to Molly and Tommy, we had a lot of lovely models and dancers wearing the full Molly and Tommy swimwear range and having a blast in and out of the pool. We of course had a few Molly and Tommy drinks from their spirit range to get us in the summer pool party vibe. It was such a great day.
What’s your favourite summertime memory?
Oh, that’s a hard one. I think I’m very fortunate to perform across the UK and abroad at many festivals, prides and events. So I don’t think I can narrow it down to one memory for me. It’s a combination of performing all over with my incredible dancers and crowds of people all enjoying themselves in the sunshine and singing along. There’s something about the feel-good vibe and people smiling and having fun that I just love.
Where can we catch you performing this summer?
I’m performing across the UK and there are a few potential dates around Europe so check out the gigs page on my website for all details — allanjay.com/ gigs-and-news.
Will there be any more songs coming out this year?
There are a few ideas for later in the year, but it’s far too early to say the C-word (Christmas). Nothing is definite at the moment as we’re enjoying the success of Summer of Love. I’m so grateful to everyone who has streamed,
downloaded or shown support…thank you!
